Competitor to the WPT?
From
Scripps Howard News Service:
Card playing has suddenly become a spectator sport - what with shows like "World Poker Tour," "Late Night Poker" and "Celebrity Poker" shuffling on cable TV. Now the GSN, the network for games, is elaborating on its "World Series of Blackjack" with two new shows: "Celebrity Blackjack" and "World Blackjack Tour." Both will air this summer. "Celebrity Blackjack" promises to feature the entertainment industry's "top 25 blackjack players." They've yet to put their money where their mouths are and say just who they are.
I doubt this will do nearly as well as the WPT.
Blackjack is an inherently boring game. To play well, it's just sheer math.
Poker is different. A significant amount of the game is math, but even more important is the human factor. That's what makes it exciting. It's why the WPT is doing so well on TV. People can relate to the human factor, and think they can do it just as well.
WPT is the highest rated program on the Travel Channel: so says a
press release from AngelCiti Entertainment.
Also, there are an estimated 50 million poker enthusiasts.
